VIDEO: Old Tappan ends Sparta's dream season
Written by - Saturday, November 12 2011

Sparta was undefeated during the football regular season, while Old Tappan needed a win in its final game just to make the playoffs.

But the Spartans saw their dreams of a sectional title come crashing down, as the Golden Knights rolled to a shockingly one-sided victory. Old Tappan scored on its first six possessions while keeping Sparta off the board until late in the game in a 40-14 triumph.

Sparta actually did a decent job of controlling the Knights' superstar quarterback Devin Fuller on the ground. One week after rushing for more than 300 yards against Ramapo, Fuller had under 100 yards rushing against the Spartans, although he did score two touchdowns.

But Fuller made up for it through the air, throwing for 200 yards, and Old Tappan's defense opened some eyes with an impressive performance.

Sparta ends its season at 9-1 while Old Tappan moves on to face Pascack Valley in the sectional semifinals.
