This has been a remarkable season for the Morristown hockey team. And what better place to conclude it than the Prudential Center? The Colonials made that dream come true with a stirring comeback win over Morris Knolls in the Public A state semifinal at Mennen Arena. Down 2-0 late in the second period, Morristown struck for four straight goals to pull out a 4-2 victory. Tommy Donofrio got the rally started by knocking in a rebound with under a minute left in the second period. Donofrio also put the game away with an empty-net goal in the final seconds. Steven Windt and Jordan Klotz recorded the other goals for Morristown, with Klotz getting the game-winner on a tremendous solo effort. Freshman goalie Shane Brown made 28 saves to earn the win. Jack Monahan and Connor Manning scored for Morris Knolls as the Golden Eagles built their lead. Trevor Tironi had 34 saves. Morristown got payback for a loss to Morris Knolls during the regular season. Now the Colonials will try to do the same to another Morris County team, Randolph. The Rams beat Morristown 2-1 in January in a hockey game that played out much like a playoff contest. This time, of course, it will be for all the marbles, the Public A ice hockey state championship. The game is set for the Prudential Center in Newark at 7:00 Friday. For sports video highlights of Morristown vs. Morris Knolls in the state semifinal, click play in the box at left. |
